Program Overview
The Better People program is designed to be tailored for each individual client. While group meetings are a core component, you will also spend time one-on-one outside of group with our facilitators. While some clients will complete every component of the program, others will be guided to participate in only the components most relevant to them. We recognize that you may have received some of this training and/or counseling already and honor the experience you bring with you.

At orientation you will be given an overview of the program and an application; our staff will guide you through the application process.

Please call (503) 462-3593 or email us  to find out the next orientation time.

If you are a referring agency, please contact us for a referral form.

Assessment Meeting
Upon receiving your application our staff will setup a one-on-one meeting with you to help you prepare for entering the program. At that meeting we will help you determine if you are ready and prepared for the program requirements. This meeting will also help the staff begin to tailor the program for you.

Moral Recognition Therapy
Every client will participate in our therapy groups using Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT). MRT is a step-by-step treatment strategy designed to enhance self-image, promote growth of a positive, productive identity, and facilitate the development of higher stages of moral reasoning.

Groups meet twice per week for 90-minutes. Between meetings there is important work for you to do on your own. You will also have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with your MRT facilitator for support and guidance.

Career Readiness Training
Check back with us in the near future as our Career Readiness Training is currently being revised. For your current employment needs contact the local WorkSource Center near you or Mercy Corps RTC.

Resources and Support
Our staff holds weekly interdisciplinary team meetings to make sure all client support is being well coordinated. In addition, we research community resources that provide social, recreational, and therapeutic services and assist clients and their families in locating these resources. Our goal is to help our clients find solutions to the issues that may get in the way of completing our programs.

Graduation and Giving Back
When you have completed the program, you will be invited to attend one of our graduation ceremonies. This is an important milestone to celebrate with your friends and family. After graduation, clients are expected to give back by becoming a mentor to a newer client and/or by joining our alumni club to help Better People grow and serve the community.
